Joel Embiid looked like the league MVP last night. The Sixers found themselves down 21 points but found a way to bounce back and knock off the Portland Trail Blazers 120-119. Embiid caught an inbound pass and hit a turnaround jumper with 1.1 seconds to seal the victory for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Embiid is leading the league in scoring averaging 33.3 points per game, also a career-high for him. Two other factors make this season standout for Embiid: health and defense. He has played in 52 games this season which is fourth most of his seven year career. If he plays in the remaining 16 games, he will tie the most games played in a season in his career at 68 which was just last season.
On the defensive end of the floor Embiid has been one of the best two-way players for the last couple of years. Last night he posted two steals and three blocks. He is averaging 1.6 blocks and 1.1 steals on the year.
After Embiid sealed the game, you could hear the “M-V-P” chants from everywhere in the arena.. Rightfully so.
