It’s great to see the Houston Rockets back in the playoffs this year. The big question now is: can they actually make a deep run? Over the past few seasons, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been criticized for being a young, talented team that struggles in the postseason, and I’d say Houston is in a similar spot from a young team perspective. They’ve got a few veteran players, even one who has a title in Fred VanVleet and a coach with deep playoff experience, but those aren’t the factors driving this team’s success right now. It’s been the scrappy defense and offensive versatility of Jalen Green and Alperen Şengün with other complementary players.
One potential first-round matchup I’d love to see is Houston against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The T-Wolves had a shaky start to the season, but lately, they’ve looked like one of the most dangerous teams in the league. Over the last month, they’ve gone 14-3, picking up some impressive wins and building momentum at just the right time. With only five days left in the regular season, there’s still plenty of uncertainty about how the seeding will shake out. Make no mistake, whoever the Rockets face in the first round will play a major role in determining how far they go. There’s even a potential series with the Lakers or Warriors at the moment waiting for them if they escape the first round. Houston’s toughness and grit are about to be put to the test.
