For the last few days, I’ve been listening to Malz Monday’s Either Way, It’ll Be Ok album, and I’m hooked. I stumbled across a video of Malz rapping while scrolling through Instagram late one night, and after checking out his page, I saw he had just dropped this project a couple of days earlier. I gave it a spin the next morning on my way to work, and I was all in after the first listen.
After a few more plays, I noticed that this project gives me a similar vibe to Vince Staples’ debut album, Summertime ’06. Vince painted a gritty picture of life coming up in Long Beach, and Malz does something similar by reflecting on his past and his relentless hustle to get to where he is now. This album is really centered on the grind in today’s world, and Malz is the perfect narrator to guide us through.
