Weekend Recap: Ohio State on Top, Miami Runs the Table, LSU Looks Elite

  1. Ohio State will win the Big Ten: Ohio State looks poised to win the conference. What is surprising is that the Buckeyes haven’t taken home the title since 2020, despite being one of the most dominant programs in the conference every year. We know they bring plenty of offensive firepower (even if they didn’t need much of it against Texas) but this season, the defense will be the difference.

2. Miami could go undefeated: The toughest game of the year for the Hurricanes came Sunday night, and they survived it. The matchup went down to the wire and Miami likely would have lost a year ago. Carson Beck stayed calm and composed throughout, while the defense came out aggressive, stingy, and disruptive against Notre Dame’s opening drives. The Canes gave the Irish some life in the second half, but Notre Dame does have an offense capable of moving the ball. This Miami team feels different, and I don’t see them fumbling this opportunity the way they have in years past.

3. LSU has jumped from good to elite: For the first time since 2019, LSU is 1-0 after their first game. The Tigers went after the transfer portal hard last offseason, and the impact was noticeable in their win over No. 4 Clemson. Just like Ohio State, their defense set the tone, holding Clemson to just 31 rushing yards on 20 carries. On offense, Garrett Nussmeier looked every bit the Heisman candidate many predicted before the season. LSU has clearly leveled up from good to elite.
